Congratulations, Mama! Whether this is your first or fifth child, having a baby is a beautiful moment in your life, and I’m here to help guide you through your Maternity Photo session from start to finish so you can relax and enjoy this time with confidence.
Below I’ll break down everything you need to know in order to prep for a Maternity Photo Session with me so you can rest assured that your precious memories will be captured just right. We’ll cover when to schedule your session, what to wear, what to bring, how long a Maternity Photo session takes, and more.
When Should I Schedule My Maternity Photo Session?
Your Maternity Photos will take place between weeks 30-35 of your pregnancy, so it’s best to schedule your session around 20 - 25 weeks to ensure you get the scheduled date and time you’re hoping for. You’re welcome to schedule your session after 25 weeks, however my availability fills up fast, so you may not get the specific date you’re hoping for.
Scheduling is easy! Simply fill out this form and you’ll be contacted for additional details about your desired location, aesthetic, and timing for your Maternity Photos.
What Should I Wear to My Maternity Photo Session?
The options are endless! Some of my clients choose a more casual/cozy look, while others opt for a full-glam or romantic look.
If You’d Prefer to Wear a Gown: You can either bring your own to wear or you can take advantage of my extensive client closet of Maternity gowns. This service is included in the cost of your booking and I’ll be there to help walk you through choosing the perfect gown for you. If you'd prefer to get your gown elsewhere, Mama Bump Rentals is a great resource for expecting mothers as well!
If You’d Prefer to Bring Your Own Outfit(s): I typically recommend choosing a look with little-to-no pattern so that it doesn’t distract from your beautiful face and figure, as well as the backdrop. Consider choosing an outfit that emphasizes your baby bump or is easy to hold against your bump so we can easily capture it.
Are You Including Other Family Members in Your Photoshoot?: If so, I’d recommend coordinating the colors of their outfits with your own to give your photos the most cohesive look. For example, if you plan to wear a white gown, I would recommend having your family members wear white or other neutrals so they don’t stand out too much and clash with your outfit.
Feeling Stuck?: Don’t worry. I am here to hold your hand through this process so you can be confident on your photoshoot day and so that you love the final product!
Do You Offer Hair and Makeup Services for Maternity Sessions?
While I can help you with your hair and makeup, I recommend having your hair and makeup done with someone who specializes in enhancing your natural beauty through those art forms. I have some wonderful resources to help you with your hair and makeup for your maternity photoshoot! Simply let me know if you're looking to have your hair and makeup professionally done and I will send you a list of my preferred vendors when you book your session.
How Long Will My Maternity Photo Session Take?
This will depend on how many photos you’d like, how many outfit changes you plan on, and where you choose for your photo location. Typically maternity photo sessions take around 1-2 hours to complete.
Where Will My Maternity Photo Session Take Place?
Your maternity photos can be taken in my home studio or at an outdoor location of your choice around Colorado Springs, Colorado!
You Might Choose a Studio Maternity Session If:
You prefer a more private setting
You are a fan of fine art photography and studio sessions fit your home's aesthetic
You are looking for gorgeous keepsakes to pass on to your future child someday
If you opt to have your maternity photo session take place in my beautiful home photography studio, you’ll have access to a variety of backdrops, props, gowns, and even a tub used for gorgeous milk bath maternity photos.
You Might Choose an Outdoor Maternity Session If:
You love the beauty of the outdoors
You love a natural-look to your keepsake photos
Areas around Colorado Springs hold a special meaning in your heart
You are looking for beautiful photos you can cherish for years to come
If you choose to have your maternity photoshoot at an outdoor location, you will still have access to my extensive client gown closet at no additional cost. You of course still have the option of bringing your own clothing/gown for your session.
Some of My Favorite Outdoor Photography Locations Around Colorado Springs Include:
Garden of the Gods
Bear Creek Park
Ute Valley Park
Monument Valley Park
If none of these locations are what you're looking for, we can absolutely find another location for your photos! Just let me know when you book your session if there is a specific location you have your heart set on.
Do I Need to Bring Anything to My Session?
All you need to bring is your desired outfit(s) (if you decide not to use one of the gowns in my client closet). Optional items to bring include meaningful props (baby shoes, onesie, wedding rings, name banner/plaque, etc.), comfortable shoes if you choose a location that requires excessive walking, and something comfortable to change into after your session is complete.
I’m Nervous About Posing for My Photos. Will You Help Me?
Don’t worry! My goal is to make sure your maternity photo session feels as relaxed and natural as possible. I will help guide you into the posed and candid shots to make sure you leave your session feeling beautiful, confident, and excited to see your maternity photos!
How and When Will My Photos Be Delivered?
You will receive a digital album of your photo proofs within 24 hours of your session. Once you receive the proofs, you will select your favorite photos to be edited, and once your selections are made I will get to work editing them to perfection for you! You will receive final edits of your selected photos as soon as they’re finished--this usually takes 5-7 business days.
Do You Offer Photo Prints and Albums For Purchase?
Yes! I recommend using my print lab for your photo prints and albums as not every print service is created equal. I stand behind the quality and color matching you’ll get with my print lab, and I know you’ll be thrilled with the quality of your images and albums.
I will provide information upon delivery of your digital album as to how you can order prints and albums of your maternity photos!
How Can I Use My Photos?
Your maternity photos are for you to use however you’d like! Share them with family and friends, share them on social media, order prints, canvases, & albums, and most importantly, cherish them forever!
What Happens If My Baby Comes Before My Maternity Photo Session?
If this happens to you, don’t worry! Your deposit for your cancelled maternity photoshoot will be applied to a newborn photo session with me! You can [click here] for more information on my newborn photography sessions.
